2400 Train (Spirit of Chicago) Wooden Train
One-piece hardwood body & non-toxic child-safe paints and plays on all standard wooden railway systems.
The 2400-series cars were delivered between 1976 and 1978. Their red, white and blue color scheme coincided with the country's bicentennial celebration.
Between 1987 and 1995, the 2400-series cars underwent a mid-life rehabilitation, performed in-house by CTA staff, to upgrade their systems and extend their service life.
The 2400-series was retired in 2014. Over their 38 year service lives, the series cars were used on every line on the 'L' system at one time or another.
Eight cars were preserved by CTA as "Heritage Fleet" cars, available for charters and special events.
